These quite recent geometric calculations had been the forerunner of much of diamonds cutting work these days and led to other, more specific mathematical models engineered to enhance the fire and brilliance of diamonds.
There are now cuts like the ovals, pear, princess cut, trillions and heart-shaped. Some advanced cutters have even designed star or even butterfly-shaped gemstones! One patented cut, the Ashoka diamond, is definitely an oblong cut with rounded, brilliant ends, and requires a stone 3 carats or much larger.
